Various countries in the Asia-Pacific take turns to contribute the naming of tropical cyclones in the Western North Pacific and South China Sea.
It's Thailand's turn again (their last participation was in naming Typhoon Prapiroon, a rather severe storm in September which affected the HK International Airport and caused days of flight delays and cancellations).
And what better name than the King of Fruit, the Durian. Is it in season?
Other notable contributions include: Kai-tak, Dolphin, Lionrock (HK), Jelawat, Nangka and Mawar (Malaysia).
... hang on, I thought typhoon season was over...
