What a fantastic weekend... good weather, good friends, good food! Friday's holiday was a stay-at-home kind of day, although our initial plan was to explore a little more of the outdoors. We were forewarned there would be terrible traffic jams near the countryside due to the Chung Yeung Festival - read this for an explanation of why the countryside and mountains are crawling with people on the 9th day of the 9th month of the Chinese calendar. Our building security guard begged to differ though: he says that the 9/9 festival in China was originally a day where good friends get together to celebrate friendship. Climb a mountain we didn't, but we did have good friends over for a meal in the evening, followed by tong sui at our favourite shop down the road.

Continued good weather on Saturday meant that we could go on our planned hike (post coming soon) and that was how we spent most of the day. It's hard to sound convincing that we did loads of other stuff apart from eating, but it's just easier to show pictures of food, since they look good and dress up my otherwise boring blog!

Dinner on Sunday was at Myung-Ga, a Korean restaurant in Causeway Bay (in the World Trade Centre). I had never been a big fan of Korean food, as past experiences had generally been rather confusing: why does it look so Japanese? but then it tastes Chinese? Myung-Ga's changed that perception to a certain extent. The seafood noodles went down very well, the broth being simply flavourful and devoid of the usual MSG aftertaste you get with eating out these days. I can't remember the name of the other dish but it had strips of mildly-seasoned raw beef in a bed of raw vegetable salad and rice. Yum. All customers are also served a medley of Korean appetisers - the kim chi being my favourite. Just looking at it again makes my mouth water :p We are definitely going back for a round of barbecue!

Don't let the raw yolk put you off!

I could drink the broth straight from the bowl
