Lofty pursuits

Remember that hike we did earlier in the year? We decided to do it again on Easter Monday, as we were blessed with simply gorgeous sunshine and still on the roll where flora and fauna are concerned. This time, we decided to take a different route to the starting point. We found a minibus headed for Cyberport that used the Aberdeen tunnel, and after consulting the map, decided to alight at Wah Fu and walk the short distance up Pokfulam Road to the starting point. The bus ride was ever so quick, only 15 minutes to get to the southeast part of HK island from where we were! (northeast) Unfortunately we underestimated the distance from the alighting point to the starting point of the trail, so our hike actually began the minute we got off the bus. The sun was practically over our heads when we reached the entrance to the trail, but we did have a good twenty minutes walking uphill past Chi Fu and Pok Fu Lam Tsuen (pictures above). Incidentally, Aberdeen (aka 'Little Hong Kong') is apparently the birthplace of the fishball...

We got to the starting point eventually, that's a snapshot of the buses that get you there!

A doggie latrine... so that your pooch can 'go' before the walk!

Last time I used Google Earth; this time I brought my camera and took a picture of a signboard which had a map of the trail on it :)

See that hemispherically-topped building somewhere to the left of the centre? That's the Peak Galleria, at the Peak which is the destination of the walk. You can veer off to Aberdeen somewhere in the middle of the walk, but we decided to keep going up, up, up!

Which way to go?

Apparently Pokfulam Village used to be in the vicinity...

It's actually called Pok Fu Lam Country Park

Route was steep at times. This doggie followed us around and didn't want to go back to its owner! I hope it used the doggie latrine before it started following us...

The view of the other peaks from this one.

The Peak Lookout, just as we emerge from the Country Park.

Our reward...

i've done this walk too! i did this going down from the peak, instead of going up. not so tiring-la.
after like 20mins on that trail, it crossed my mind that it may not be so safe for me, a perempuan, to do it alone. but i was too lazy to backtrack up, so, i went all the way down, not exactly sure where it would lead me.

lulu, ya, they always advise going hiking in groups of four or more... thankfully that trail is quite a popular one with families. What did you do when you got to the bottom of the trail?

took a bus from pok fu lam. went through hku, and i think, aberdeen.
i always enjoy the rides on buses when i'm travelling. you get to see so much without having to walk :-P

yeah! that's why i always prefer the bus to the MTR, unless the MTR gets me to my destination 30 minutes quicker! take any bus going via the Mid-levels, Peak or to the south side and you'll get a complimentary rollercoaster ride as well :p
